This work uses as a launching point advanced theories of artistic perspective- namely by the French mathematician and painter Jean Francois Niceron, who wrote about the anamorphic distortion of images in the 17th century. Anamorphosis is the art of geometrically distorting a painting, drawing, etc., to the point at which it becomes unrecognizable. The distorted image can then only be seen correctly by viewing it from an unusual vantage point, such as from an extremely narrow angle of vision. The use of mirrors to both distort images and correct image distortions is key to many anamorphic works. This music is both an homage to Niceron and an exploration of mirror-image dualities and distortions, geometric deviations, and altered perspectives both artistic and psychological...
Joe Frawley is an experimental composer & pianist, working out of New London, Connecticut, whose works blur the boundary between music and sound art.

"Sudden Bursts/Normal Breaths" is a double album of songs and instrumentals, the majority of which grew out of studio improvisations. The tracks on this collection are a selection of recordings from 2008-2011. In comparison with Now’s previous albums, ‘Sudden Bursts/Normal Breaths’ features both more upbeat – at times joyfully silly – and dark, melancholy tunes, which reflect the varied character of their on-stage improvisations. It was made just as a trio with few guest players, and it is the first album that includes deliberate takes on other genres from dance music to minimalism.
Since their foundation in 1998, NOW have released seven albums, contributed exclusive tracks to many compilations and collaborated with underground musicians such as Damo Suzuki (leading to the release of the joint album ‘The London Evening News’), Charles Hayward and The Go! Teams' Kaori Tsuchida. Having played inside and outside the UK, including a Japan tour in 2009, they have also attracted support slots with bands such as Faust, Circle, Tunng, Psapp, Rothko, Plaid and A Hawk And A Hacksaw, and, in February 2009, The Stooges' Mike Watt dedicated an entire radio show to their music. Live, NOW move between melodic songs and energetic improvisation. NOW could be described as catchy, contemporary, inventive, exotic, melodious, harmonious and disharmonious 21st century pop music.

Jan Svankmajer, Disney & friends, Tim Burton, and now Kai Nobuko, under his electronic dance psychedelic cosmic polka syncronized swimming stoner genius oddball techno rave smash cascading vehement good humored artistic identity “Toxic Chicken” whose music puts the most nihilistic misanthropic kafkaesque man into an epileptic fit of boogey! Kai was hesitant to let me turn this one loose on humanity, because he holds this one close to his radiant heart.
This single track wonder was originally composed, with love aplenty stirred in with a magical whisk, for a lingery show in Bangkok, Alice In Wonderland being the theme. I am honored to have the soundtrack for such a spectacle here in our collective compost heep of love. Thank you again, Toxic Chicken. Pour yourself a nice cup of tea.
